New Jersey Shore Town Faces Teen Takeover, Multiple Arrests Made

1 month ago 0

Authorities in New Jersey have made several arrests following an influx of teenagers causing chaos in a serene shore town. The events unfolded on Tuesday night in Long Branch, an oceanfront area known for its rental units and hotels, as police responded to reports of disruptive teens.

The teenagers were reportedly involved in fights, damaging cars, and causing general disorder along the boardwalk. Footage captured by bystanders displayed a line of police officers equipped with riot shields, managing to direct the teens out of the area.

According to NJ.com, a total of six arrests were made during this incident. Among those arrested were a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old woman, and three teenagers under 18 for disorderly conduct. Another teenager was detained for evading police.

“The City of Long Branch takes these events seriously and will not tolerate conduct that endangers residents, visitors, business owners, or our public safety personnel,” said Charles Shirley Jr., Public Safety Director.

Further arrests may occur as police investigate reports of assaults on Centennial Drive and at a local train station. Authorities are also probing a suspected vehicle theft in the vicinity.

A significant law enforcement presence was noted with nearly 140 officers, including 69 from the Long Branch Police Department and 70 from neighboring agencies, responding to the scene.

An emergency curfew was imposed by city officials, with streets cleared shortly after 8 p.m. Although this response was swift, some residents, such as Jason DeSantis, expressed their discontent, stating it was evident on social media that a “senior skip day” was planned.

The incident occurs as communities along the Jersey Shore prepare for the influx of visitors expected over Memorial Day weekend. Officials in nearby locations, such as Seaside Heights, are also taking measures to manage incoming crowds.
