New York Governor Criticizes Funding Withhold Ahead of 9/11 Anniversary

1 month ago 0

New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul has accused the previous administration of President Donald Trump of holding back crucial counterterrorism funds. Leading up to the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, she addressed these concerns at a recent press conference.

Funding Concerns

Governor Hochul claimed the Department of Homeland Security is withholding 40% of New York State’s counterterrorism budget. This amounts to $87 million, according to the governor.

“The Department of Homeland Security, the agency created in response to 9/11, is withholding 40% of New York State’s counterterrorism funding,” Hochul stated.

Criticizing the administration for defunding public safety measures, Hochul warned that the lives of citizens are at risk due to political maneuvers.

“Don’t play political games with people’s lives. Release the $87 million dollars you owe us,” said Hochul.

She further emphasized the betrayal towards families affected by 9/11, and the ongoing risk to first responders and general public safety.

Political Reactions

Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined the conversation, highlighting the need for funding crucial public safety mechanisms. He underscored the impact on bomb squad operations and emergency response capabilities.

“We are talking about the money needed to fully fund 12 bomb squads across New York,” Mamdani declared.

He expressed the inadequacy of withholding funds necessary for emergency readiness and public safety.

Retired Port Authority officers have also voiced their concerns, advising Hochul and Mamdani to keep away from ground zero during commemorative events.

Federal Response and Community Impact

Although Fox News Digital has requested statements from the White House and the Department of Homeland Security, responses are pending. The broader implication remains a concern for handling potential disasters.

Mamdani emphasized operational readiness in addressing threats, underlining the importance of proper training and equipment for responders.

In this debate over security funding, the well-being of New York residents remains a primary focus. The conversation underscores the city’s struggle for resources amid significant safety demands.
