New York Police Official Faces Charges for Alleged Gang-Related Activities

1 week ago 0

Jennifer Lackard, a suburban New York police official, has been accused of driving the getaway car for her son’s alleged gang-related shooting. Lackard, age 49, and her son, Chase, age 20, were apprehended by the New York Police Department due to their involvement in a drive-by shooting targeting rival gang members. This incident took place near the Bronx Criminal Court on June 29.

Prior to her arrest, Lackard served as the deputy commissioner of wellness for the Mount Vernon Police Department. Her role involved police reform, implementing a civilian complaint review board, and officer wellness initiatives. Lackard, along with Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, shares a connection through their Delta Sigma Theta sorority affiliation.

Court records indicate Jennifer Lackard, 49, and her son Chase, 20, were both arrested by the New York Police Department on Tuesday in connection with a June 29 drive-by shooting at rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court.

The City of Mount Vernon announced the termination of Lackard’s employment effective immediately. The statement underscored that the allegations against her are not related to her duties within the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Lackard was appointed to her position in July 2020 despite having no prior experience with a police department. Her hiring was perceived as a significant transition, as she had worked on community-level initiatives such as the Station of Hope prison re-entry ministry and the Re-Entry Meetup for Westchester County.

The situation has prompted inquiries into Lackard’s associations and her past advisory roles, including her work with the Westchester County Probation Advisory Board and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice Implementation Task Force.

Fox News Digital has reached out for comments from Patterson-Howard and Delta Sigma Theta. Additionally, attorneys for Jennifer and Chase Lackard have yet to respond to requests for comments on the charges.
