Nicole Curtis Sued Over Detroit Property Maintenance

Nicole Curtis, the former host of HGTV’s ‘Rehab Addict,’ faces legal trouble as the City of Detroit files a lawsuit against her and her company, Detroit Renovations LLC. The charges claim failure to maintain and restore a deteriorating property in Detroit.

The lawsuit highlights that the property continues to be a public nuisance. Despite receiving multiple code violations and a court order in 2021 for renovation, the property remains in poor condition. Curtis gained ownership in 2021 after legal proceedings with the Detroit Land Bank Authority, as reported by The Detroit News.

The court, led by Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny, identified the 1921 American foursquare-style house as a community hazard. The city noted multiple violations, including unrepaired or missing exterior features, a damaged roof, and faulty gutters. As a result, the property has deteriorated further, without achieving compliance.

Fox News Digital attempted to contact Curtis for comment but did not receive a response.

Curtis, known for her work on 19th and early 20th-century homes, primarily operates in Detroit and Minneapolis. However, her reputation faced a setback in February. HGTV canceled her series after a video surfaced where she used a racial slur on set two years prior. Curtis expressed surprise and regret at her words in the footage, asking for the segment to be removed.

The video, posted by Radar Online on February 11, coincided with a planned return of her series after a three-year break, followed by a second pause in July 2025 due to personal issues. HGTV permanently canceled the series in February, removing it from all platforms.

In a statement to TMZ, HGTV stated the racial remark was offensive and did not reflect its values. Curtis apologized, expressing remorse, and discussed the incident further on ‘The Breakfast Club’ show. She explained her inadvertent use of the slur during the show.

Hosts Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy challenged Curtis on her remarks. Curtis admitted frequent use of nonsensical terms like ‘fart digger’ and ‘fart knocker,’ citing them as part of her show’s vocabulary without profanity.
