Oklahoma Man Allegedly Attacks Deputies with Flamethrower During Eviction

A routine eviction in Oklahoma turned into a dangerous standoff. An Oklahoma man, Darron Dunn, allegedly attacked deputies with a makeshift flamethrower during the eviction. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office released body-camera footage capturing the incident.

Deputies arrived at Dunn’s Oklahoma City apartment on August 11 to execute an eviction order. Upon arrival, they encountered barricades, including cables on the door and an electric wheelchair behind it. After forcing their way in, they found Dunn in a bedroom.

“Back up!” one officer shouted as a burst of flames erupted in the apartment.

Authorities report Dunn used an aerosol can as a flamethrower against a deputy and a Housing Authority security officer. The flames reached approximately 15 feet toward the deputy, causing significant alarm.

During the retreat, officers noticed a car battery with wires, raising further concerns. The video showed a wired device near the front door, sparking fear of a potential explosive. Officers quickly ordered an evacuation of nearby residents.

The sheriff’s tactical team and bomb squad responded. They disabled the wires on several aerosol cans taped together, which were part of the device. Dunn, who used a wheelchair, was later safely removed from the apartment.

A spokesperson from the sheriff’s office stated that bomb technicians assessed the device, determining it was unlikely to explode but could have sparked or heated up.

Dunn faced charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, possessing an incendiary device, and obstructing an officer. Due to medical issues and stress, Dunn was first taken to a VA hospital before being placed in a mental health facility.

The sheriff’s office highlighted the emotional intensity during evictions, recalling a similar volatile incident four years earlier. Evictions can lead to unpredictable and high-risk situations for law enforcement officers.
