Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning stated he is still gathering information regarding the arrest of wide receiver Evan Stewart. Lanning assured that appropriate action will be taken once all necessary details are obtained.
“There will be an appropriate action taken. Still gathering some details with what that situation looks like,” Lanning said.
Lanning emphasized that the situation would be handled internally and declined to answer further questions about it. Stewart was arrested early Sunday on charges of driving under the influence, shortly after the Ducks triumphed over Nebraska on Saturday night. Police records show Stewart was booked into the Springfield Municipal Jail.
The incident overshadowed Oregon’s victory, as Lanning noted it was unfortunate. Stewart, who missed the game against Nebraska due to an undisclosed injury, has recorded 27 catches for 352 yards and four touchdowns this season. Last season, he was absent due to a right patellar tendon tear.
“There was an incident this weekend that didn’t match our standard here in our program,” Lanning commented.
In addition to Stewart’s situation, Oregon is preparing for an upcoming Big Ten match against Illinois. The status of star quarterback Dante Moore remains uncertain as he recovers from a concussion.
Moore participated in practice prior to Oregon’s Week 6 game against UCLA, but Brock Thoman and Dylan Raiola played during the 17-15 loss to the Bruins. Both quarterbacks also saw action in the game versus Nebraska.
