Oyarzabal’s Redemption on the World Stage

Nearly a week after his debut, Oyarzabal made history. He scored two goals and assisted one more in Spain’s 4-0 win against Saudi Arabia. He became the second player ever to score or assist three goals within the first 25 minutes of a World Cup match. László Fazekas from Hungary was the last to achieve this feat back in 1982. His actions had an immediate impact, with his deep cross assist to Lamine Yamal leading to a goal within the first 10 minutes.

Throughout the match, Oyarzabal was a key player. He scored twice in quick succession, in the 21st and 24th minutes, before halftime. With five shots and three on target during his 45 minutes on the field, his contributions were significant.

Despite achieving a milestone, Oyarzabal prioritized team success over personal records. He expressed satisfaction in helping Spain succeed but emphasized the importance of consistency and improvement.

“In the end, it’s an anecdote,” Oyarzabal stated. “I don’t give any importance to it. I’m happy to have scored, to have helped the team.”
