Patton Oswalt Criticizes Bill Maher’s Approach to Trump

1 month ago 0

Patton Oswalt, a well-known comedian, expressed his criticism of Bill Maher this week. He took issue with Maher’s approach to former President Donald Trump, suggesting that Maher attempted to appeal to Trump but underestimated the repercussions.

Oswalt’s Critique

During a conversation with SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah, Oswalt remarked that Maher’s effort to accommodate Trump was misguided. Oswalt contrasted Maher with other vocal Trump critics like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.

He stated, “Colbert and Kimmel… Trump dislikes them because they don’t seek his approval. However, once someone shows affection towards him, Trump loses respect for them, rooted in his self-contempt.”

Oswalt advised maintaining a firm stance against Trump. He warned that partnering with Trump often leads to negative outcomes, cautioning that even basic financial sense should deter associations with the former president.

Incident with Trump

Oswalt’s comments referred to events from February when Trump criticized Maher on Truth Social. Despite their past dinner meeting, Maher’s anti-Trump comments led to Trump’s disapproval.

Trump specifically targeted Maher for mocking the idea that China might influence Canada’s hockey landscape due to economic connections. Maher labeled their dinner a “waste of time,” claiming there was no nervousness during their first interaction.

Maher explained that Trump misunderstood his joke and felt angered, leading him to criticize Maher’s show and its ratings.

Maher’s Response

Despite Trump’s comments, Maher defended his criticisms of Trump, asserting he never promised to refrain from speaking against him. He maintained that his criticism was unwavering, even after dining together.

Attempts to contact representatives for Maher’s “Real Time” show by Fox News Digital did not yield immediate responses.
