Peabo Bryson: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Musical Icon

Peabo Bryson, renowned for his distinctive voice and memorable duets in Disney films, has passed away at the age of 75. His family confirmed his death occurred on Tuesday evening, following a stroke earlier in the week.

his family expressed in a heartfelt statement.

Bryson’s contributions to music extend far beyond his acclaimed Disney songs. Over a career spanning five decades, he established himself as a leading figure in R&B, known for soulful hits like “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Can You Stop the Rain.” His voice, celebrated worldwide, resonated with listeners and became the soundtrack to many cherished personal moments.

Born in South Carolina, Peabo Bryson began his musical journey with the group Moses Dillard and the Tex-Town Display in the 1970s. His solo career took off after signing with Bang Records in Atlanta. Over the years, he worked with well-known labels such as Capitol, Elektra, and Columbia Records, becoming a sought-after partner for duets.

Bryson collaborated with artists including Celine Dion, Regina Belle, Roberta Flack, and Natalie Cole. His duet with Flack, “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love,” became an iconic love ballad of the 1980s. “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” expanded his audience, crossing over into mainstream music charts.

Bryson’s talents extended beyond the recording studio. He appeared in stage productions like “Raisin,” “The Wiz,” and “Porgy and Bess.” In 2018, he released “Stand for Love,” his 21st studio album, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.

After suffering a stroke in May, his family requested privacy as they navigated this challenging time. Bryson had previously made a full recovery from a heart attack in 2019, showcasing his resilience.
