Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated she was unaware of former President Joe Biden’s decline but emphasized accountability for those who knew. Biden was questioned about this by Politico’s Jonathan Martin, where Pelosi asserted, “I didn’t know, but those who did should have acted on that information.” She added confusion over whether the staff or family was aware and should have acted faster.
Pelosi and Biden had disagreements over the 2024 race, yet spoke in March. Despite claims that she prompted Biden to withdraw, Pelosi denied asking him to step down. She mentioned expressing doubts about Biden’s polling and campaign, suggesting, “I would hope others could discuss perceptions with your pollster.” Furthermore, she advised, “The public would like assurance you are prepared for the next term.” When asked about Biden’s reaction, Pelosi shared he asserted daily job testing.
Fox News political analyst Guy Benson criticized Pelosi’s statements as “non-credible gaslighting.” He accused her and others of downplaying Biden’s obvious decline for political motives and later turning against him when politically convenient.
Pelosi appeared on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe” in July 2024, suggesting Biden was still contemplating his candidacy. She urged him to decide on his run, stating, “We are all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short.” Biden’s office did not respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
