Pete Buttigieg Calls for ‘Radical’ Changes to Political Institutions

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg shared his views on the Trump administration’s decisions concerning Iran on ‘America Reports’. He discussed potential implications for foreign policy and national security and addressed the state of political institutions in the U.S., emphasizing concerns about democratic norms and the balance of power.

Buttigieg, a possible 2028 presidential candidate, faced criticism from a former RNC chairman for not disavowing the rise of socialism in the Democratic Party. Claiming the title ‘Buttigieg Democrat’, he resisted traditional party labels but acknowledged disagreement with some in his party.

“There’s always going to be some people in my party who go too far for me,” Buttigieg remarked, highlighting agreement within the party despite differing views.

Buttigieg noted the aging political system’s shortcomings, suggesting a need for transformation. He mentioned that candidates promising change, whether on the left like DSA candidates or figures such as Donald Trump, resonate with voters due to their dissatisfaction with current systems.

The University of New Hampshire Granite State Poll showed Buttigieg evenly matched with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., in a hypothetical 2028 contest. Ocasio-Cortez addressed DSA proposals and constitutional queries, acknowledging collective complaints on the matter.

Fox News analyst Reince Priebus criticized Buttigieg for aligning with far-left elements within the Democratic Party. Priebus suggested Buttigieg did not sufficiently rebut the party’s socialist wing.

Buttigieg, when asked about a presidential run, stated his current focus is on supporting others in upcoming elections. He stressed the significance of this election, noting impacts on everyday issues such as gas prices and healthcare, encouraging consideration of Democratic candidates.
