Phil Mickelson Expelled from San Diego Golf Club amid Allegations

3 weeks ago 0

Phil Mickelson, a six-time major champion, has been removed from The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Reports indicate this follows accusations of unwanted physical contact with a female employee. Mickelson has been associated with the club for many years.

The allegations involve an incident earlier this spring. Mickelson allegedly approached the employee in the clubhouse, making nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact. After rejecting his advances, the woman reported the incident to her supervisors, leading to an investigation.

A spokesperson for Mickelson stated that any misunderstanding has been resolved, although Mickelson faces uncertainty regarding his return to professional golf due to an undisclosed family health matter. Mickelson had only participated in one event this year, missing notable tournaments like the Masters and PGA Championship.

The Farms Golf Club conducted an independent investigation following the staff member’s report. Mickelson was subsequently asked to leave the premises. The club emphasized its commitment to staff safety and member privacy. Mickelson’s expulsion adds to recent controversies in his career.

Mickelson’s reputation has faced challenges in recent years. In 2016, he was implicated as a relief defendant in an insider trading scheme but was not criminally charged. He paid back nearly $1 million gained from a single trade. Notably, gambler Billy Walters, involved in the case, mentioned Mickelson in his 2023 autobiography, alleging significant gambling activity over decades.

Mickelson became the oldest major champion by winning the 2021 PGA Championship. His involvement with the Saudi-funded LIV Golf has also stirred controversies. He lost sponsorships after making controversial remarks about Saudi Arabia in 2022. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia is set to end financial support for LIV Golf after this year.
