11 minutes ago 0

The NBA preseason has started, with the Philadelphia 76ers securing a commanding win over the defending champions, New York Knicks, with a score of 120-97. Although not all key players took to the court for the 76ers, they exhibited impressive form.

Prior to the game, Knicks coach Mike Brown assured that nearly all his players would participate, and his words held true. Despite their limited time on the court, starters like OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson managed to score 12 points each. Other Knicks starters, including Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, combined for a total of 10 points.

Post-game, Jalen Brunson addressed the media, sharing candid thoughts on the Knicks’ outlook as they face a season with revamped teams like the 76ers. Brunson remarked, “It’s a good first step. Not a great first step, but as long as we’re making strides in the right direction, it’s something to be happy about. Still a lot for us to learn and be better at early.”

Though it was just a preseason game, the Knicks understand that regular season play will present a different scenario, where starters will receive more extensive playing time and influence the game to a greater degree. This season, they aim to disrupt LeBron James’ and Jaylen Brown’s debut with the 76ers and commence the season celebrating their 2026 NBA championship at Madison Square Garden.

In Monday’s matchup, Philadelphia showcased talent with players like Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe contributing significantly. Brown, with 17 minutes of play, scored 22 points by hitting 8 out of 13 shots, much to the delight of Philly fans at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. Edgecombe, embarking on his second NBA season, tallied 12 points, seven assists, and four rebounds in 20 minutes.

The Knicks and 76ers will face each other again in a regular-season game in New York on Tuesday, Oct. 20. This time, the stakes will be higher as both teams vie for their first regular season victory.
