President Trump Talks with UK’s New Prime Minister Andy Burnham

President Donald Trump recently announced a positive conversation with Britain’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, shortly after Burnham assumed office. Trump described the exchange as “very good” and expressed plans to meet Burnham in the near future to explore issues of mutual interest.

The two leaders discussed the longstanding relationship between the U.S. and the U.K., with Trump affirming American support amidst challenges facing Burnham. Trump remarked, “We discussed many subjects, including the outstanding relationship we have had with the UK.” Burnham faces significant tasks ahead, but Trump assured, “The Prime Minister has got a big job ahead of him, but he will be able to do it and, of course, the U.S.A. will be there to help!”

The conversation covered topics such as North Sea oil, trade, the U.S.-U.K. military alliance, and efforts to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz. Following the call, Burnham’s office expressed anticipation in welcoming Trump to Manchester during a future visit.

Downing Street reported Trump updating Burnham on Middle Eastern affairs, with Burnham reiterating the U.K.’s commitment to reopening the Strait of Hormuz securely. The British statement highlighted, “The Prime Minister outlined the UK’s commitment to securing the movement of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to support global supply chains and drive down costs for businesses and families across the country.” Defense and security remain U.K.’s priority alongside allies.

Domestically, Burnham intends to promote reindustrialization to stimulate economic growth. Trump concluded the conversation as a major success, stating, “The call was interesting, and went very well. I wished Prime Minister Burnham, GOOD LUCK AND GODSPEED!”

Andy Burnham became Britain’s seventh prime minister in a decade, succeeding Keir Starmer, who had a tenure of just over two years. Burnham aims to transform a nation that has seen a rapid succession of leaders.
