In Dallas, Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker encouraged voters to dismiss the Republicans’ inaugural midterm convention. He spoke at a Democratic National Committee-hosted press conference opposite the site of the GOP convention, the American Airlines Center.
With the midterm elections less than two months away and early voting starting soon, President Donald Trump and the GOP launched their convention to rally the party’s base and enhance voter turnout in pivotal races. Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters emphasized placing the president on the ballot with this convention.
Pritzker critiqued the GOP’s two-day event, criticizing their policies and expressing concern over Trump’s actions. He insulted Trump’s trade war, affecting grocery costs, and his international and domestic policies harming working families. He accused Republicans of trying to manipulate the 2026 election by restricting mail-in voting through the U.S. Postal Service.
The White House defended Trump’s order on mail-in voting as a measure for securing elections. Pritzker, seeking re-election, is seen as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race. Joining Texas Democrats in Dallas, he asserted his interest in Texas’s political landscape and the importance of voter awareness nationwide.
