Rep. Rashida Tlaib Faces Criticism in Florida Ahead of Rally

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, is under scrutiny from Rep. Randy Fine, the only Jewish Republican in Florida’s Congress, as she supports challengers to her Democratic colleagues. She plans to attend a rally in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, organized by leftist groups backing three congressional candidates. This includes two socialists aiming to replace Democratic Representatives Jared Moskowitz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida.

According to Fine, Tlaib’s involvement is notable as she targets two Jewish Democrats. “I think that it’s no coincidence that she’s coming to target two of the remaining Jewish Democrats,” Fine told Fox News Digital.

Fine criticized Tlaib’s participation. “It won’t be well received in Florida,” he continued, suggesting that the Democratic Party is “lost.” He expressed his hope that Florida Democrats would approach the situation more wisely than their national counterparts. Fine perceives a troubling trend in the Democratic Party, which he believes is not beneficial for America.

Throughout this election cycle, Tlaib has been influential on the far left as Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-affiliated candidates make significant electoral gains nationwide. Critics of these candidates accuse them of crossing into antisemitic territory with their criticism of Israel and showing sympathy towards groups like Hamas. Tlaib, the first Palestinian American woman in Congress, has been a focal point for such criticism but denies any antisemitism.

According to Fine, Tlaib, a “vocal supporter of Hamas,” contributes to an environment where Jewish Americans feel unsafe. “The Democratic Party is lost, and I think it’s dangerous,” Fine stated, referencing the kind of candidates the Democrats nominate.

DSA-affiliated candidates have already achieved success in states like New York, Colorado, and Michigan. In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, a socialist figure, won the Democratic nomination for Senate against the establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens. Tlaib has actively campaigned with El-Sayed and other DSA candidates in the U.S.

Tlaib is set to attend the ‘Chomp the Oligarchy’ rally organized by Gen Z For Change and Florida Youth Justice Coalition. The campaigns of Moskowitz and Wasserman Schultz did not comment on Tlaib’s involvement. Tlaib’s team also did not address Fine’s statements. Previously, Tlaib and other Democrats have accused Fine of anti-Muslim sentiments.

Moskowitz, running in Florida’s 25th Congressional District due to redistricting, aims for re-election. Wasserman Schultz competes in the newly drawn 20th Congressional District, predominantly Black and strongly Democratic, raising concerns about its effect on Black representation. The redistricting has sparked discussions about its impact on the Democratic candidates.
