5 days ago 0

On September 26, 2026, during the United Nations General Assembly, Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, accused Europe of obstructing efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The ongoing conflict has escalated, with both Moscow and Kyiv intensifying attacks. Recent Russian assaults have killed four individuals across Ukraine, while Kyiv has targeted Russian oil refineries with long-range drones.

The U.S.-led initiatives have yet to establish a lasting ceasefire or peace agreement. President Trump expressed hope that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Lavrov accused Europe of attempting to prevent U.S.-backed peace talks. In his address to the Assembly, Lavrov emphasized that Russia’s special military operation aims to ensure security and restore peace under any circumstances.

Prior to his speech, Lavrov met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, marking the first meeting between Berlin’s and Moscow’s foreign ministers since the war began. The discussions occurred amidst growing tensions between the two nations, highlighted by accusations of Russian sabotage activities in Germany, including a thwarted drone attack on Leipzig airport.

In response, Wadephul highlighted the impact of Russia’s actions on millions, the Ukrainian state, and European peace. He urged Russia to negotiate an end to the fighting, underscoring the necessity of dialogue.

President Trump, during discussions with Zelenskyy at the U.N., reiterated his hope for a resolution, suggesting a potential agreement before winter. Zelenskyy acknowledged his reliance on U.S. support but emphasized the escalating nature of Russian strikes. He called for a stronger global response to prevent further conflict expansion, stressing the need for decisive international action.
