Russia Launches Deadly Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv

1 hour ago 0

At least ten people lost their lives following a missile and drone assault by Russia targeting Kyiv overnight into Monday, according to Ukrainian authorities. Another 46 individuals sustained injuries as emergency teams searched through the debris of residential high-rise buildings hit directly. Hours earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had cautioned about an incoming large-scale attack.

Among those killed, seven were specifically reported dead from missile and drone strikes on the morning of July 6, 2026. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, shared on Telegram, “These are residential buildings where people slept and lived their ordinary lives.” He added that a residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed. In the Darnytsia district, various multistory structures faced severe damage, with individuals feared trapped under the debris.

The ongoing assault, active into early Monday, utilized waves of ballistic and cruise missiles supplemented by drones. Explosions reverberated through the city as civilians sought refuge in subway stations.

President Zelenskyy had warned hours before about another large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv. This warning came days after a previous strike by Russia that killed at least 31 people in the capital and just a day prior to a NATO summit set to open in Turkey.

The prior assault marked the largest since Moscow initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy repeated his appeal to Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses by supplying more Patriot missiles. He argued that a failure to provide additional defensive resources enables Russia to extend its ongoing four-year conflict, as he emphasized in a Telegram post late Sunday.
