Ruston Kelly Embraces Sobriety After Accident

2 weeks ago 0

Country music artist Ruston Kelly has recommitted to sobriety following a serious accident. Kelly, 37, revealed that he relapsed after a golf cart crash in June but is now three days sober. He shared his experiences with his followers on social media, reflecting on the difficult past months.

After the accident, Kelly posted an image of a gold Narcotics Anonymous token inscribed with ‘My gratitude speaks when I care and when I share with others the NA way.’ These tokens are often used in support groups to recognize milestones in recovery.

Kelly acknowledged that he had told himself in 2021 that avoiding amphetamines was sufficient for his sobriety. He initially grouped alcohol and THC with amphetamines, believing he should abstain from them. However, he later resisted identifying himself as an addict, insisting he only had issues with amphetamines and not with substances like alcohol.

In June, Kelly suffered a severe arm injury when a golf cart accident led to him flipping the cart. He was treated with strong painkillers like fentanyl and oxycodone. Though necessary for his significant pain, the medications quickly became a new dependency. He admitted to consuming them excessively, sometimes even before leaving the pharmacy.

Kelly stated that on July 26, he decided to change his life to avoid jeopardizing his future and appreciated the support from his loved ones. He acknowledged that he has a substance abuse issue and will avoid all drugs, alcohol, and THC. He intends to stay sober, focusing on one day at a time.
