Rutgers Professor Mark Bray Releases Book on Fleeing U.S. After Death Threats

3 weeks ago 0

Rutgers University professor and author of “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook,” Mark Bray, is set to release a new book detailing his decision to flee the United States. The book, titled “Unpunctuated Death Threats: Notes from a Fascist Present,” is scheduled for release on January 19. It recounts Bray’s departure for Spain with his family following death threats and the online circulation of his home address.

The book connects Bray’s move to the political atmosphere after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, in September 2025. Kirk was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. The publisher notes that Bray, faced with threats after Kirk’s murder, chose to leave the country with his family.

Bray, a history assistant professor, was stopped and questioned by federal agents at the airport before eventually reaching Spain. The incident left a significant impact on him. The book provides an intimate view of how political developments in the U.S. have created an environment that compelled Bray to seek refuge abroad. He links his experiences to a resurgent fascism and ongoing issues in places like Gaza, reflecting on his Jewish identity in search of understanding.

In the past, Bray has faced criticism from students at Rutgers, including a petition for his removal. His previous works, including “Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook,” support militant anti-fascism. He pledged that at least 50% of the proceeds from this book would go to the International Anti-Fascist Defense Fund.

Bray’s support for antifascism is evident in online posts, including a message on the social media app Bluesky where he argued that legal systems can be manipulated against anti-fascist movements under certain leaderships. Such views have earned him both support and criticism. Rutgers student Megan Doyle argues that Bray’s stance contradicts his portrayal as a victim, citing his advocacy for political violence and his associations with Antifa activities.

Despite the controversies, Bray remains employed by Rutgers University, funded by New Jersey taxpayers. Fox News Digital has reached out to both Bray and the university for comment.
