Sen. Mitch McConnell Returns to Senate Following Months of Recovery

2 weeks ago 0

Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, is returning to the Senate to cast his first vote after months away. His return has been much anticipated following speculation about his health condition.

McConnell announced on Monday, marking the Senate’s return after a long break, his intention to vote for the first time since his severe fall in June. He stated, “I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues. My recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of childhood polio haven’t made it any easier.”

Despite not feeling fully recovered, McConnell has assured Senate Majority Leader Thune of his commitment to participating in important votes. He mentioned continued physical therapy as per his doctors’ advice. “Elaine and I are very grateful for all the continued well wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I’m glad to get back to more of business as usual on their behalf this month,” he added.

McConnell, 84, experienced a significant absence from votes and committee work since early June after being hospitalized due to a fall at his home in Washington, D.C. His recovery included a battle with pneumonia and rehabilitation sessions.

His return coincides with the Republican agenda to vote on substantial farm aid and funding legislation this week. Previously, the absence of McConnell’s vote caused the bill’s failure to advance.
