Heavy rain and powerful winds battered the Northeast U.S. causing widespread disruption. The storms impacted locations like Long Island and Delaware, leading to significant damage.

Long Island’s Beach Club Decimated

A powerful storm devastated a beach club in Atlantic Beach on Long Island. Video footage captured potential tornado activity, with debris scattered and intense rain. The Inwood Fire Department noted that numerous cabanas at the Sun and Surf Beach Club were destroyed. Fire Chief Josiyah Green reported no injuries, emphasizing the fortunate circumstances amidst the destruction.

“Best I can call it is luck,” Green declared. “Just by the grace of luck that a lot of people weren’t hurt here.”

Nassau County Declares State of Emergency

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman declared a state of emergency, reporting flood-related incidents trapping individuals in vehicles. The National Weather Service warned of waterspouts but did not immediately confirm tornado landings.

Flooding in New York

The storm submerged the Long Island Expressway in Queens, forcing emergency closures. Social media images depicted stranded cars and emergency personnel navigating flooded areas.

Tornado Hits Dover, Delaware

Dover, Delaware experienced a confirmed tornado, inflicting significant damage. Despite the destruction, no injuries were reported. Damage included collapsed roofs at local motels while photos showed uprooted trees and disrupted power lines.

Lt. Mark Hoffman verified the tornado impact, mentioning the alignment of damages consistent with such an event. Witness Kuimonie Goins recounted her experience at the Days Inn during the storm, sharing the fear as the tornado formed.

“When it started raining, we started seeing pieces of buildings flying,” Goins told CBS Philadelphia.

Power outages affected over a thousand people in Delaware’s northern region. Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey faced flash flood warnings due to the severe weather.
