Sophie Cunningham Addresses False Narratives Around Her Comments

7 days ago 0

Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham recently addressed misleading information spreading about her comments on teammates Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. With the team’s successful season and entrance into the postseason, Clark and Mitchell are contenders for the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award.

In her podcast last week with trainer Drew Hanlan, Cunningham applauded both teammates as potential award winners. However, Hanlan mentioned that one podcast clip gained significant attention online, mainly for highlighting Cunningham’s praise for Mitchell. Many believed she was belittling Caitlin Clark.

“Yeah, I just think it’s crazy because I have two great, great players on my team, and I’m gonna hype both of them up,” Cunningham said on her podcast, “No Hesitation.”

Cunningham expressed her frustration with the media, calling the reactions “actually psychotic.” She criticized the WNBA media for misrepresenting her stance as indifferent to her teammates’ performances. Due to a NASCAR promotion, she was unable to witness them compete in the FIBA World Cup Finals against France.

Since joining Clark and the Fever, Cunningham has emerged as a significant WNBA figure, known for her candid expressions on various subjects. She launched her podcast to counter misleading narratives from media and fans seeking viral moments.

The MVP race continues, with Clark and Mitchell considered, though they are trailing behind frontrunners. Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson leads the race for her fifth MVP award, followed by Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles.

The Indiana Fever are set to face the Toronto Tempo in their next regular-season game at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
