ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith faced questions from Cari Champion and Jemele Hill during a podcast after expressing regret for voting for Kamala Harris. Smith mentioned he believed Harris was part of a plan to replace Joe Biden in the presidential race.
Smith referenced an interview on ABC’s ‘The View’ where Harris stated she would not change anything from Biden’s administration. He criticized Harris’s response, saying her loyalty to Biden overshadowed her presidency ambitions. “You trying to win a presidency? This is embarrassing,” Smith remarked.
Hill suggested Harris was highlighting Biden’s achievements, but Champion challenged Smith on why he regretted his vote, saying it undermined Harris’s efforts. Smith claimed he supported Harris during the election but felt his post-election honesty was necessary.
Champion accused Smith of unfairly targeting Black women. Smith rebutted, asking if Champion could see it as a disagreement rather than disparagement. They then discussed Smith’s conflicts with Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
The national media demand transparency and reflection, so why not have it go both ways?
Media Research Center’s Curtis Houck praised Smith’s honesty and called for more ideological diversity in media commentary. Smith previously stated his regret on Dave Rubin’s show, explaining he initially believed Harris could work across the aisle. After seeing Democratic Party actions post-election, he lost hope.
In an interview with Bill Maher, Smith reflected on his support for Harris, admitting disappointment. He believed she might not have secured the Democratic nomination if there were a primary.
