The NBA Finals have been intense, and many anticipated challenges for Victor Wembanyama. Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson made his presence known in Game 4 with a forearm to Wembanyama’s face, earning a Flagrant 1 foul. The competition in Madison Square Garden is fierce, and Wembanyama has experienced his share of controversial moments this postseason.
The Spurs interrupted the Knicks’ winning streak with a Game 3 victory, thanks to Wembanyama’s impressive 32 points. In Game 4, tensions rose as Wembanyama and Robinson clashed. Following Robinson’s foul, Wembanyama appeared to taunt him, suggesting he was ‘in his head.’ Robinson stepped up early in the game after Karl-Anthony Towns was sidelined with fouls, leading to a heated encounter with Wembanyama.
Robinson wasn’t the only Knick showing frustration. Jose Alvarado also made a physical play in Game 4, grabbing Wembanyama’s leg during a hard foul. The Madison Square Garden crowd has not been welcoming, expressing their dislike for Wembanyama throughout the series with consistent boos.
The animosity wasn’t new. In a previous game, Wembanyama caused an uproar by pushing Jalen Brunson, yet escaped a flagrant foul call. Knicks fans and social media were outraged, though an NBA review cleared Wembanyama of any foul. San Antonio maintained a strong lead, 76-49, by halftime in Game 4.
