The recent interaction between Holly Rowe and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was markedly different from their previous encounter. After a tight 24-23 comeback victory, Sarkisian had hurried away from Rowe, leaving her visibly unsettled. However, ahead of the anticipated matchup between No. 1 Texas and No. 14 Tennessee at Neyland Stadium, Sarkisian participated willingly in a pre-kickoff interview with Rowe, which proceeded smoothly.
During the interview, Rowe referenced the Manning family, noting their historical success at Neyland Stadium. She specifically asked how Sarkisian advised Arch Manning to make the game his own. Sarkisian expressed his desire for Arch to enjoy the moment with his teammates. He emphasized that the team’s success should be a collective effort, not just about Arch. Rowe thanked Sarkisian, who reciprocated the appreciation as he returned to his sideline.
Previously, the postgame interview after Texas’ win over Ohio State had gone viral. Manning was questioned about it, referencing an AI video that humorously depicted Sarkisian slapping Rowe, which was well-received humorously by those present. Manning has since apologized for his remarks.
Sarkisian explained that ESPN faced timing issues, and his primary focus was celebrating with the team. He shared that he maintains a positive relationship with Rowe, which began during his college football days at BYU.
Sarkisian aims for another opportunity for a field interview with Rowe following a Longhorn victory. At the time of reporting, Texas was leading Tennessee 7-3 in the first quarter.
