Texas Engineer Fatally Stabbed in Park: Suspect Arrested

3 weeks ago 0

A 62-year-old engineer from Texas, Andrew James Wimsatt, was tragically killed on September 7 in a random attack in Round Rock, Texas. He was an Austin resident with connections to several Fox News hosts. Authorities have arrested Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, 26, a repeat offender who had previously spent time in the local jail earlier this year. The incident occurred shortly after Wimsatt visited his mother at a nearby nursing home and sat down in a park.

Surveillance footage captured the attack, showing Wimsatt seated on a park bench around 11 a.m. Moments later, Ogbodiegwu approached him from behind and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck. Despite Wimsatt’s efforts to defend himself, he could not repel the attacker. Ogbodiegwu then wiped the blood on his shirt and left the scene. Police apprehended him later, and he is being held on a $1 million bond.

Wimsatt, who held a Ph.D. in civil engineering, worked part-time with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute after retirement. He also shared personal connections with numerous Fox News figures. Greg Gutfeld, a host, reflected on the loss, describing Wimsatt as a kind individual who enjoyed helping others. Kat Timpf, another Fox News personality, regarded Wimsatt as a supportive friend who offered encouragement and kindness.

The incident has prompted questions about the release and management of repeat offenders, with Ogbodiegwu having a criminal record in Williamson County dating back to 2017. He faced charges related to theft and fraudulent identification this year, spending several months in jail between January and June. Witnesses found Wimsatt injured in the park, and paramedics declared him dead at the scene. Police gathered evidence, including bloody clothing and the suspected murder weapon.

Ogbodiegwu’s court date is set for October 8, where he will face pre-indictment proceedings. Many are calling for accountability concerning how Ogbodiegwu, a repeat offender, was allowed to remain free. The tragic loss of Andrew James Wimsatt, a generous and positive individual, has deeply affected those who knew him.
