The James Bond series was created by British author Ian Fleming in 1953. It follows the British Secret Service agent James Bond and emerged during the Cold War. Fleming wrote twelve novels and two short-story collections until his death in 1964.

After Fleming, eight authors contributed new Bond novels. Authors like Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, William Boyd, and Anthony Horowitz expanded the series. They explored Bond’s backstory and introduced new narratives. Characters like Moneypenny also received literary spinoffs. Anthony Horowitz released the latest Bond novel in May 2022.

James Bond has become a cultural icon due to the popularity of novels and movies. Bond, also known as 007, appears in comics and video games. The film series began in 1962 and is one of the longest continually running franchises, earning over $7 billion.
