Thekla Retains AEW Women’s World Championship in Thrilling Bout

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) women’s world champion, Thekla, overcame significant challenges to retain her title in an intense four-way match at the Double or Nothing event in Queens, New York.

Thekla faced Jamie Hayter, Kris Statlander, and Hikaru Shida, with each contender aiming to claim the championship. From the start, her opponents targeted Thekla, seeking to disrupt her focus while they pursued individual strategies.

Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander initially formed a loose alliance. This partnership crumbled when Shida used a kendo stick on Statlander to interrupt a pin attempt. The situation escalated with Shida delivering a slap to Statlander’s face, resulting in a brief altercation between the former teammates.

Thekla, unfazed by temporary setbacks, waited for the opportune moment. Her patience paid off when Hayter and Shida attempted simultaneous clotheslines outside the ring. This left Statlander alone and disoriented in the ring, allowing Thekla to execute a decisive stomp.

Managing to pin Statlander, Thekla retained her AEW Women’s World Championship, continuing her reign. The Austrian-born wrestler had previously won the title from Statlander during a ‘Dynamite’ episode in February and defended her championship successfully six times since then.

While Thekla’s next move remains uncertain, she hinted at her interest in the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament. She expressed support for her teammate, Skye Blue, to win the event.
