Thousands of tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been unexpectedly removed just days before the event’s start. The tournament has already indicated weaker demand from soccer enthusiasts.
According to estimates from Ticketdata.com, there were initially about 74,000 tickets available directly through the organization. This number dropped significantly to 44,000 and then to below 30,000. Currently, the available tickets remain under this figure. FIFA has not provided a reason for this reduction, with Ticketdata.com attributing it to an unspecified “sudden inventory removal.”
Fans have speculated online about the reasons behind the ticket removal. Some suggest that tickets might have been allocated to sponsors or other parties. Others believe this may be an attempt to create artificial scarcity to increase demand.

The resale market has started to recover from several weeks of falling prices. Businesses in the host cities had previously noted a lack of interest in this year’s competition. The subdued interest was largely attributed to FIFA’s pricing strategy for the 2026 tournament, where prices have risen substantially compared to previous competitions. This increase has drawn criticism from both fans and politicians in several host states.
