Todd Blanche Rejects AI Legislation Calls

3 days ago 0

Attorney General Todd Blanche appeared on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to discuss various issues related to artificial intelligence (AI). He addressed concerns about AI agents targeting government websites and major hospitals ending transgender care for minors, emphasizing the sufficiency of current laws.

‘Everybody’s saying more laws, more laws, more regulation, but we don’t need it. We don’t need it right now,’ Blanche stated, defending existing legal measures that enable the government to address AI-related crimes.

Blanche pointed out that six major hospitals have agreed to discontinue transgender treatments for minors. Additionally, he highlighted the Department of Justice’s capacity to prosecute AI-related offenses, underscoring that rogue AI agents have targeted several U.S. government websites and the United Nations’ public data portal.

He stated, ‘DOJ absolutely has a role… and we have prosecuted bad actors in the AI space and any other space from emerging technologies for decades,’ suggesting that existing laws are sufficient for combating bad actors utilizing AI.

Blanche’s comments followed reports of AI firms examining security breaches and models making problematic decisions. Despite these concerns, Blanche resisted calls for specific AI legislation, arguing that current federal statutes offer enough legal groundwork to tackle crimes committed with AI.

Highlighting the importance of balance, Blanche spoke on maintaining AI innovation while safeguarding public interests. He asserted the United States needs to remain a global leader in AI development to compete internationally.

Regarding privacy concerns with AI-enabled surveillance, he emphasized the necessity to protect citizens’ privacy while acknowledging the advantages AI personalization can offer consumers. He assured that the FBI has measures in place to prevent government overreach in surveillance.

Max Bacall, associate editor for Fox News Digital, covered these discussions, which encompass media, culture, and AI-related concerns.
