Tom Steyer, a progressive Democrat, has ambitions to tackle California’s housing crisis if he becomes governor. Despite his political stance, his substantial personal wealth and extensive real estate portfolio raise concerns among some voters.
Steyer accumulated his fortune through a successful San Francisco hedge fund. Like many affluent Californians, he invested in luxury homes. His properties could easily appear in high-end real estate magazines. In San Francisco, he owns cliff-top mansions with views of the Golden Gate Bridge and a 1909 classical home in a gated community.
Additionally, Steyer possesses a $2 million condo in San Francisco that overlooks City Hall. He also owns a seaside home in Stinson Beach, Marin County, north of the city. South of San Francisco, in Pescadero, he created an 1,800-acre cattle ranch named TomKat Ranch by purchasing 11 parcels of land.
Outside California, Steyer owns a home on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shore and an apartment on New York City’s Fifth Avenue, along with a separate unit described as a ‘maid’s room’ on the property records. It seems he owns more than a dozen homes overall.
The campaign mentions a family friend is currently renting Steyer’s apartment in the Four Seasons Residences. This revelation may influence public perception as Steyer continues his campaign.
