Tour de France 2026 Begins in Barcelona Amid High Temperatures

The 113th Tour de France kicked off from Barcelona on Saturday, marking a historic moment as it is the first Grand Départ hosted by the Spanish city. This year’s race takes place under sweltering conditions and features a strong lineup of young cyclists poised to make their mark.

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar is in the spotlight, with fans speculating that he could secure his fifth Tour victory. If Pogacar comes out on top, it will mean another defeat for Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time winner, who will be hoping to avoid a third consecutive year of finishing behind Pogacar.

The tour concludes in Paris on July 26. The event has returned to a tradition not seen since 1971, starting with a team time trial. This format adds an extra layer of strategy for teams as they begin their journey through the challenging stages of the Tour de France.
