Tragic Shooting in Missouri: Neighbor Kills Mother and Daughter

A serious incident occurred in House Springs, Missouri, where a mother and her teenage daughter were tragically shot dead. The incident involved a neighbor, Robert Winkelman, aged 73, who crossed the street to confront his neighbors.

The confrontation turned deadly on July 25, as reported by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Winkelman approached Jessica Lashly, 38, discussing an issue at her home. During their conversation, he drew a gun and fatally shot Lashly in the head.

Her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer, attempted to intervene to help her mother but was also shot in the head by Winkelman. Another individual was present, chased by Winkelman, yet not harmed. Both Lashly and Greer succumbed to their injuries later at a hospital.

“Jersey’s last moments, she was trying to save my mom. It just shows how brave she is, and I hope I can be half as brave as she is,” said Justice Greer, Jersey’s twin sister.

Upon arrival at Winkelman’s home, deputies found that he turned the same weapon on himself. He died in the hospital on August 2. Authorities noted that he would have faced serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the motive behind the tragic event stemmed from Winkelman’s ongoing frustrations related to activities at Lashly’s house, initially labeled as noise complaints. A police spokesperson described it as a “dispute between neighbors.”

Justice Greer described her mother as a determined single parent who endeavored tirelessly for her daughters. “It was always just us three,” Justice explained, highlighting her family’s close-knit life.

Abby Feldmann, the Greer sisters’ lacrosse coach, shared warm recollections, noting Jersey’s capacity to positively impact others. “There’s not one person who would refuse to follow her,” Feldmann remarked.

The loss of Jessica and Jersey Greer leaves a void not only for their family but for the community that admired their strength and warmth.
