Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new economic pressure campaign on Monday. The initiative, titled “Operation Economic Outcast,” aims to intensify sanctions against Iran. This move is part of a broader strategy amid ongoing conflicts with the Islamic republic.
The plan involves imposing fresh sanctions on key sectors in Iran. These include digital services, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. The strategy also introduces secondary sanctions targeting countries trading with Tehran.

“We are taking decisive steps to ensure compliance and curtail Iran’s resources,” Bessent stated during his address at the Treasury Department in Washington.
