Trump Administration Blocks Tech Firms From Green Card Applications

12 minutes ago 0

The Trump administration has instituted a block on several tech companies, including Microsoft and Adobe, from applying for green cards for their H-1B visa holders. This decision aims to prioritize American workers for jobs within the tech sector.

The announcement was made by Vice President JD Vance, who stated that companies perceived as using the green card process to hire cheaper foreign labor would face suspension from the PERM program. He cited Microsoft as a prime example of this misuse, highlighting the company’s recent layoffs and continued applications for H-1B visas and green cards.

“Our message to Microsoft and other corporations is simple: We want you to succeed in the United States. However, we strongly urge you to focus on hiring American workers,” Vance stated. “While we support the growth of the American technology sector, we insist that American workers should be prioritized.”

Beyond Microsoft, other major tech firms have been affected by the suspension. U.S. Secretary of Labor Kieth Sonderling announced that companies such as Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini were also suspended from the program. The suspensions of Adobe and Microsoft were attributed to “multiple active federal investigations,” according to Sonderling.

Following these suspensions, existing green card applications will no longer be processed, and new applications will not be accepted from the impacted companies. Newsweek has reached out to the affected companies for comments.

This is a developing story, with more updates anticipated soon.
