Former President Donald Trump stated he would speak with Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te. Lai expressed a desire to discuss U.S. arms purchases, which he deems vital for peace.
Lai has served for two years, facing pressure from China, which views Taiwan as a breakaway province. He wished to emphasize the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait to Trump, calling China a ‘destroyer’ of peace in the area. Lai insists that no nation should annex Taiwan.
“No country has the right to annex Taiwan,” Lai said he would tell Trump.
Trump’s willingness for dialogue may provoke Chinese government anger.
Details on Former Prosecutor’s Actions
A former federal prosecutor, Carmen Mercedes Lineberger, was indicted on charges of emailing herself confidential files from special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into alleged mishandling of classified documents by Trump. The charges include stealing, concealing, and altering government records.
While working as an assistant U.S. attorney in Florida, Lineberger sent internal Justice Department files to personal accounts, altering file names to avoid suspicion.
Court documents allege she used file names pretending to be recipes to avoid detection.
The indictment does not claim she shared the files with anyone else.
