Trump Reports NBC Host to FCC Over Endorsement Comments

1 month ago 0

President Donald Trump plans to report NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ host Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He accuses her of mischaracterizing his endorsement record, describing it as mixed results. Trump made this announcement on Truth Social, citing recent wins of candidates Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei.

Trump expressed frustration, questioning how public airwaves can allow such statements. He claimed a 100% success rate for Senate endorsements and a 98% rate for the House. NBC News defended Welker, asserting her credibility and standing by her role as a moderator.

Welker’s comments about Trump’s endorsement record were made during a live appearance on NBC4 Washington. She highlighted Trump’s influence on the midterms and mentioned his recent endorsement success with Darline Graham’s primary win. Despite criticism, NBC News supports Welker, emphasizing their trust in her journalistic integrity.

The situation sparked reactions, with CNN’s Brian Stelter accusing Trump of trying to use the FCC against journalists for coverage he disliked. The FCC does not have the authority to punish individual journalists for their reports.

Fox News tracked Trump’s endorsement performance, showing a 100% success rate in Senate primary endorsements and 214 out of 218 in the House. Trump endorsed candidates in 21 gubernatorial races, achieving 16 wins. Despite some losses, Trump highlighted his overall strong endorsement record.

Trump criticized media organizations for focusing on his losses rather than his successful endorsements, claiming his success rate as historic. He urged FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to address this matter seriously, criticizing the media’s influence on public perception.

The FCC regulates on a station basis, not overall networks. Its policies require evidence of deliberate misinformation, distinguishing it from inaccuracies or opinion differences. The commission has not immediately responded to Trump’s remarks.
