Records suggest a diverse group of businessmen are involved, including an NFL kicking coach, a GOP fundraiser, and a New Jersey businessman recently ordered to pay damages for fuel theft.

The Mysterious Attraction

The connection between Trump and the Freedom Fuel Network interests many, yet it remains a mystery. The four businessmen associated with the network have been unavailable for comment. What is evident, though, is Trump’s appreciation for lower gas prices. Trump lauded the network’s prices before the busy July 4th holiday through a Truth Social post. He emphasized America’s strength and suggested that gas prices might drop to pre-conflict levels.

Business Background

The first station in this network emerged in Dresher, Pennsylvania. This station is owned by a subsidiary of Blue Owl Capital. Notably, Trump previously owned up to $25 million in Blue Owl stock, but his latest disclosures show most of this stake has been sold. The White House clarified that Trump had no personal relationship with the venture and received no funding. Blue Owl retains about a third of network properties but leases them to independent contractors without participating in business operations.

The Kazmi Brothers’ Legal History

Much of the network is linked to Shamikh and Syed Kazmi. The brothers have faced numerous civil misconduct allegations. They operate many of the network’s locations and have been involved in legal disputes, including a $600,000 judgment over stolen fuel. These allegations add complexity to the image the brothers project as experienced petroleum distributors.

Formation and Ownership

The Freedom Fuel Network was officially registered in Delaware on June 23. Delaware’s laws allow for significant anonymity in company filings. The document was signed by Randy Brown and Yoni Gontownik. Brown has a background in sports coaching and politics, while Gontownik has ties to investment and political fundraising. Neither responded to inquiries about the business.

Sales Strategy and Price Fluctuations

According to Jeff Lenard from the National Association of Convenience Stores, Freedom Fuel’s prices suggest the gas might be sold at a loss, a strategy to attract attention. However, such promotional pricing is typically short-lived. Recent reports indicate a rise in prices at these stations. For instance, a station in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, now charges $3.82 per gallon.

The Freedom Fuel Network released a statement appreciating Trump’s endorsement, which they attribute to their rapid business growth. The statement addressed gossip by underscoring their commitment to lowering prices for community benefit.
