President Donald Trump celebrated a recent court decision allowing his legal team to modify his $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. On Truth Social, Trump stated that the “failing” Times failed once more to have the powerful lawsuit dismissed after years of defamation claims.
Trump announced that a judge permitted an updated complaint, which will provide extensive details on the alleged defamation by The Times. Trump’s message emphasized accountability for what he perceives as the Mainstream Media’s fake news practices.
According to documents filed in the U.S. District Court for Florida’s Middle District in Tampa, Trump’s attorneys have until August 27 to amend the lawsuit.
“We will continue to hold The Times and their ‘comrades’ in the Mainstream Media accountable for publishing, promoting, and dealing in Fake News. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Trump added.
The lawsuit claims long-standing defamation by The Times, addressing coverage from “The Apprentice” to tax-related articles. The case names The New York Times Company, certain reporters, and Penguin Random House, which published a book about Trump’s business dealings.
A spokesperson for The Times labeled the lawsuit meritless, suggesting it aims to stifle independent reporting. Despite previous legal actions, The Times stands firm against what it calls intimidation tactics.
