Trump’s Remarks at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

3 weeks ago 0

At the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, Donald Trump made several noteworthy remarks, expressing both his respect for journalists and criticism of their coverage of him. He expressed appreciation for the media present but shared concerns about fairness, stating, “Sometimes I don’t feel you treat me fair. Maybe you do. I don’t know.” He also quipped about the news industry’s financial future post-presidency.

Trump joked about running for a fourth term and critiqued the media’s potential fortunes without him. “You people have no idea how lucky you are. When I’m gone, you’re all going to be broke,” he said, and donned a ‘Trump 2028’ hat. These comments were met with mixed reactions from the audience.

During his speech, Trump called for term limits in Congress while sharing a humorous anecdote involving a text message received by a legislator. The joke seemed to fall flat with minimal audience laughter, prompting Trump to comment on the lack of response.

One segment of the speech focused on criticisms directed at journalists, including Kaitlan Collins and Josh Dawsey. Trump accused Collins of reporting “fake news” and made remarks about her demeanor, which led to boos from the audience.

Trump referenced the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner hosted by Barack Obama, discussing the jokes made at his expense and the speculation that this moment spurred his decision to run for president. He clarified, however, that this was not the case.

The dinner was marked by heightened security due to an attempted shooting incident at a previous dinner event. Secret Service Agent Victor Gonzales was awarded for his bravery during the incident.

Other attendees included members of Trump’s Cabinet, senior officials, and notable journalists. Some joked about past clashes with Trump as he shook hands and interacted with previous adversaries.
