Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced the introduction of US dollar-denominated bills featuring President Donald Trump’s signature. These bills are being released to commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday.
On Saturday, Bessent reposted a social media message from President Trump showing an image of a $100 bill with Trump’s signature. Bessent explained, “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his signature. It is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the semiquincentennial.”
Traditionally, US paper currency contains the signature of the treasury secretary and the US treasurer, not the president. Trump, known for his background in business, has aimed to imprint his name on various institutions in Washington and across the nation.
In the previous year, the administration added Trump’s name to the US Institute of Peace. Additionally, the name appeared on the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, though a judge later ordered its removal. Furthermore, Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is undergoing a renaming process to honor the president.
