President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative focused on exploring oil, gas, and mineral resources in Greenland. This revelation comes on the heels of a recent security agreement designed to enhance the U.S. military and security presence on the island.
The agreement, finalized in September, was signed by the United States, Greenland, and Denmark. It grants the United States access to Greenland’s airspace and territory. However, the island remains under the autonomous administration of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Trump’s statement followed months of contentious discussions and threats to acquire the island, including the possibility of using force.
“There are experts that are saying that the amount of easily available oil is far greater than that of almost any land, anywhere in the world and, even more importantly, from a security purpose in the defense and offense of both the United States of America, and Europe, is second to none,”
On Truth Social, Trump emphasized the strategic military advantages provided by the agreement, arguing that Greenland will serve as a critical defense point, capable of intercepting various forms of attacks on the United States.
“Any future attack on the United States will have to come across Greenland, where our defense will routinely knock down drones, missiles, or any other form of weapon not yet even conceived. It gives us time, location, and sightline, like nowhere else in the world!”
