Upcoming Congressional Elections: Key Districts to Watch

5 hours ago 0

The race for control of Congress is in its final stages, with Republicans and Democrats preparing for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term. As per the latest Fox News Power Rankings, House Democrats have an edge over House Republicans, potentially securing 215 seats compared to 201 for the GOP. However, with 19 seats still classified as toss-ups, the balance of power remains uncertain.

One aspect offering hope to Republicans is the emergence of far-left influences within the Democratic Party. Victories by socialist candidates could lead the party further left, a concern voiced by GOP candidates nationwide.

Key House Districts Potentially Favoring Republicans

Here are 10 Democrat-held House districts where Republicans might secure key victories:

Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District

Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Ala., faces a challenging re-election in a redrawn district that now favors Republicans. The Supreme Court’s decision, impacting racial considerations in congressional maps, has influenced this change, potentially benefiting the GOP. The district is rated “likely Republican.”

Florida’s 9th Congressional District

Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., competes in a redrawn district that leans Republican. The district’s current alignment suggested a significant preference for Trump in 2024. The seat is evaluated as “lean Republican.”

Florida’s 14th Congressional District

Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla., is running in a modified seat to make it more competitive for Republicans. The district favored Trump in the latest analysis. It’s rated a “toss-up.”

Florida’s 22nd Congressional District

This district involved changes that could have led to a primary battle between Democrats Jared Moskowitz and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Both are running in different districts now, leaving the seat open to both parties. The district is projected a “toss-up.”

Florida’s 25th Congressional District

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., is in a district adjusted to slightly benefit Republicans. Known for his bipartisan work, Moskowitz has to navigate a political environment favoring Republicans. This seat is described as leaning Democrat or a “toss-up.”

Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District

With Rep. Cleo Fields retiring, changes following Supreme Court decisions have altered this district to potentially lean Republican, especially with delayed election dates. The seat is seen as likely falling under Republican control.

Maine’s 2nd Congressional District

Moderate Rep. Jared Golden’s retirement opens a chance for Republican gain in a district Trump won. Former Gov. Paul LePage is a strong candidate in a competitive race. The district is a “toss-up” but leans Republican according to CPR.

North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District

Rep. Don Davis faces a tough re-election in a district with a growing Republican margin. His previous narrow victory adds pressure against Republican Laurie Buckhout. The seat leans towards Republicans slightly.

Texas’ 35th Congressional District

Following redistricting, Republicans seek to win here. The district, while predominantly Hispanic, saw lines drawn favoring Trump in recent results, showing slight Republican leanings.

Ohio’s 9th Congressional District

With redistricting efforts aimed at Republican inclusion, Rep. Marcy Kaptur faces big challenges in her long service history. The district is a “toss-up” following Trump’s previous lead in 2024 elections.
