On Sunday, U.S. military forces launched an attack on two Iranian launchers. These launchers, linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were on Larak Island and aimed to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. This was confirmed by U.S. Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), through an email to Newsweek.
According to Hawkins, CENTCOM had removed sea mines from international shipping lanes in the Strait the previous week. U.S. forces continue to closely monitor the region, poised to ensure the uninterrupted flow of commerce through this vital waterway.
The airstrike followed a period of ceasefire between the two nations, provoking threats of retaliation from Tehran.
Iranian state media, as quoted by Reuters, reported casualties among both soldiers and civilians. However, specific numbers were not disclosed. Reuters further mentioned that Tehran’s state media promised a ‘response and punishment’ for the attack.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial point in the conflict, being a major route for oil and trade shipments.
This event is part of ongoing developments. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
