The annual Israel Day Parade in New York will proceed without the presence of the city’s mayor, Zohran Mamdani. He cited his longstanding opposition to the Israeli government as his reason for not attending. For many, this marks a notable absence given that mayoral attendance has been the norm.
Support for Israel among Americans has been declining. The parade occurs amidst increasing antisemitism throughout the United States. Despite the mayor’s absence, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch will participate as a representative of the administration. She assured attendees of heightened security measures.
Strong Security Measures
In a news conference focused on security for the event, Mamdani stressed his duty to ensure the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers and attendees, irrespective of his presence. The Israel Day Parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Manhattan, and Mamdani emphasized that security would be robust.
Jessica Tisch, a supporter of Israel, expressed her enthusiasm for the parade. She described it as one of the year’s most cheerful occasions.
