Warner Robins High School Shooting: One Student Injured, Another in Custody

On a Wednesday afternoon, a student was injured in a shooting at Warner Robins High School, located in Warner Robins, Georgia. Authorities report that a 14-year-old student is in custody.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time, as confirmed by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. An argument between two ninth-grade students escalated in one of the school’s bathrooms, leading to one student pulling a gun and shooting the other.

The sheriff’s office initially reported two injuries, but Sheriff Matt Moulton later clarified only one student was harmed. The injured student was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After firing the weapon, the 14-year-old suspect fled the school by foot but was apprehended in a nearby neighborhood. Authorities have not disclosed how the teenager obtained the gun or any impending charges.

In response to the incident, Warner Robins High School will remain closed for the rest of the week. Staff are instructed not to attend on Thursday. A crisis team will be available on campus Friday and Monday to support both students and staff.

Warner Robins is situated roughly 100 miles south of Atlanta in central Georgia.

State and local officials expressed their concerns over the incident.

Warner Robins Mayor LaRhonda W. Patrick stated on Facebook, “This type of incident impacts our students, faculty, and parents, but also our entire community. We appreciate all of our public safety officers, police, and fire, for their rapid response in protection of our children.”

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp shared his gratitude on X for the swift response of law enforcement. He stated, “Their action quickly brought the situation under control and kept students, faculty, and staff safe.”

Senator Raphael Warnock emphasized his support for the injured student and credited the first responders for their work. “I’m grateful to the law enforcement officers and first responders on the scene,” Warnock commented.
