LSU, under head coach Lane Kiffin, delivered a commanding 51-10 victory over Clemson, advancing three spots in the rankings. Conversely, Michigan narrowly defeated Western Michigan 13-12 but fell out of the poll from its previous 16th position.
Oregon faced a challenging match against Boise State, winning 34-27 but moving down from the No. 2 preseason spot. The game featured notable contributors like offensive linemen Michael Bennett III, Iapani Laloulu, and Trent Ferguson.
In contrast, SMU’s 27-24 win at Florida State helped them climb to the 17th position. Washington, after a 24-10 victory against Washington State, mirrored its Big Ten counterparts in the rankings.

Overall, Week 1 presented few surprises, a refreshing change in a time of overreactions. Michigan still garnered 69 votes for a ranking, while Western Michigan collected 12.
