William Fichtner, known for his role in ‘Prison Break,’ is selective about the projects he takes on and has no regrets about turning down offers that don’t resonate with him. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 69-year-old actor shared his approach to choosing roles, stating he has ‘never’ regretted saying no to projects that ultimately became successful.

Fichtner explained that he has been ‘pickier and choosier’ during various moments in his career. He mentioned, ‘If I didn’t believe in the role or see something I could do with it, I wouldn’t take the journey.’ He emphasized the importance of believing in the project and acknowledged his tendency to avoid roles that don’t align with his values.

He candidly mentioned that he doesn’t hold saying no to lucrative jobs as a badge of honor and knows immediately when something isn’t right for him.

Discussing his wife’s reaction, Fichtner humorously noted that they have candid conversations about scripts, saying, ‘When my wife asks if I like it, sometimes all I can say is, ‘It’s in the garbage, honey. Sorry. Are we heading to the store now?’

In his latest work, Fichtner plays Wayne Whittaker in the Apple TV miniseries ‘Lucky,’ which recently aired its finale. The series stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Luciana ‘Lucky’ Armstrong, a reformed criminal pulled back into unlawful activities. Fichtner praised Taylor-Joy’s performance in the final showdown between their characters, noting she played it ‘perfectly.’

On the filming experience: Recalling the intensity of filming in a high desert north of LA during hot conditions, Fichtner commented, ‘The heat added to the intensity of the climactic scene.’ He admired Taylor-Joy’s ability to deliver her role amidst challenging conditions.

Fichtner joked about the dynamics with Taylor-Joy, describing his initial challenge working with her: ‘Standing there with those incredible eyes, it felt like we were in the middle of havoc.’

Career insights: Fichtner began his acting journey in the 1990s, gaining recognition in the 2000s with his role as FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone in ‘Prison Break.’ His experiences with both miniseries and multi-season arcs have given him a unique perspective on role preparation. He compared the process, stating the contrast between working on a regular show like ‘Prison Break,’ where new scripts arrive frequently, and a limited series, where he sees the complete arc of the character upfront.

The actor appreciates the depth a limited series offers, noting, ‘It’s different because you do have the scripts; you do see the arc of the character.’
