Wimbledon Day 10 Highlights: Zverev’s Triumph and Nosková’s Breakthrough

Alexander Zverev, the No. 2 seed at Wimbledon and reigning French Open champion, posed a formidable challenge. On a day when Zverev’s first serve landed over 80 percent of the time, he became nearly unbeatable, especially on the grass courts of Wimbledon, where he had historically underperformed compared to other Grand Slams.

Zverev’s 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Taylor Fritz, the highest-seeded American player, marked his first entry into the Wimbledon semifinals. Prior to this, his best performance at Wimbledon had not extended beyond the fourth round. Despite Fritz’s past success against Zverev, this match favored the German.

Before losing, Fritz had a strong record against Zverev, including a recent win on grass. Grass courts favor Fritz’s playing style, making it surprising that Zverev managed to dominate so effectively.

“I would have liked to feel 100 percent and try to give him a match,” Fritz expressed during his post-match conference.

Zverev’s performance was marked not only by dominant serves but also by winning a significant percentage of points on his second serve. With two times more winners than unforced errors, Zverev is following up his French Open success powerfully at Wimbledon. Next, he faces British wild card Arthur Féry, who surprised by defeating Flavio Cobolli on Centre Court.

Linda Nosková’s Semifinal Debut

Linda Nosková, at 21, showed both her skills and poise in her quarterfinal against Elise Mertens. The Czech player, newly in the top 40 rankings, maintained control throughout the match despite occasional struggles during key points.

Nosková’s groundstrokes effectively kept Mertens defensive, and she created numerous break opportunities. Although not all were successful, her tactical play and skillful shots eventually overcame Mertens. Her win, marked by a 6-3, 7-5 scoreline, came after successfully serving out the match in the 12th game of the second set.

Nosková now faces Marta Kostyuk, a player with a similarly strong recent match record, in the semifinals. With their styles well-suited to grass, both will have to adapt strategies, promising an engaging match.

Upcoming Women’s Semifinals
